Serving Ojai & Ventura County

Welcome to your sanctuary

Peacefully sleeping baby, Moonhaven offers gentle sleep consulting in Ojai and Ventura County

When your baby is struggling with feeding, movement, or development in those first critical months, you deserve a provider who sees the whole picture. Moonhaven is an in-home infant wellness practice serving families across Ojai and the greater Ventura County area, offering infant occupational therapy, lactation consulting, and neuroscience-informed sleep support under one roof.

We offer unhurried, in-home visits led by Jenna Breiner, a dual-credentialed occupational therapist and IBCLC with over 11 years of clinical experience working with infants and young children. Whether the concern is latch pain, a suspected tongue tie, torticollis, or a disorganized suck pattern, Jenna assesses the full picture in a single visit: feeding mechanics, oral motor function, body tension, and progress towards developmental milestones. Every visit takes place in your home, on your schedule, in the environment where your baby actually feeds, moves, and grows.

What We Help With

Babies have one job in those first months: latch, sleep, and thrive.

When any part of that isn't going well, everything else feels harder. Moonhaven supports the daily life of your baby across all three.

  • Latch and positioning difficulties, nipple or breast pain, low milk supply, bottle feeding mechanics and flow rate, oral motor dysfunction and disorganized suck patterns, tongue tie, lip tie, and buccal tie assessment from both an OT and IBCLC lens, pre- and post-frenectomy rehabilitation, pumping routines and return-to-work planning, premature or late preterm infant feeding, and the transition to solids.

  • Truly gentle, neuroscience-informed sleep consulting. No sleep training, no cry-it-out. Just brain science, responsive parenting, and sustainable strategies that work with your baby's biology.

  • Torticollis, positional plagiocephaly and/or brachycephaly (flat head shape), tummy time tolerance and coaching, head control and early developmental milestones, body tension patterns that affect feeding or sleep, and sensory processing in the first year.

Why Families Choose Moonhaven

Most providers see one piece of the picture. A lactation consultant evaluates the latch. A pediatrician checks weight gain. An OT addresses motor development. When something isn't adding up, families end up bouncing between appointments, waiting for referrals, and piecing together conflicting advice on their own.

Moonhaven is different. As both a licensed occupational therapist and an IBCLC, Jenna assesses feeding, oral motor function, body tension, head shape, and developmental milestones in a single visit. When a latch issue is connected to jaw tension, a tongue tie is accompanied by torticollis, or a sleep disruption has a feeding component, she can identify those connections and build one integrated care plan rather than sending you to three different providers.

And we come to you. Every visit takes place in your home, where your baby actually eats, sleeps, and moves. Feeding challenges, motor patterns, and sleep rhythms look different at home than they do in a clinic, and the solutions need to reflect your real life.

  • If something feels off, trust that instinct. You don't need a diagnosis or a referral to reach out. Some common reasons families contact Moonhaven include breastfeeding or bottle feeding that is painful, stressful, or not going as expected, a baby who is struggling to latch or stay latched, clicking sounds during feeding or feeds that take much longer than expected, a suspected tongue tie, lip tie, or other oral restriction, a head tilt, head turn preference, or flat spot on your baby's head, difficulty with tummy time or uneven movement patterns, and sleep challenges where you're looking for guidance that doesn't involve sleep training. If you're unsure whether Moonhaven is the right fit, reach out and we'll help you figure that out.

  • An occupational therapist helps people do the things they need to do every day. For babies, that means eating, sleeping, and developing the movement patterns that support both. An infant OT evaluates how your baby's whole body is working together: oral motor function, muscle tone, head and neck mobility, sensory responses, and postural patterns. At Moonhaven, Jenna is both a licensed occupational therapist and an IBCLC, which means she can assess feeding from both a lactation and a developmental /motor perspective in the same visit. This dual lens is especially valuable when a feeding difficulty is connected to jaw tension, torticollis, body tightness, or a tethered oral tissue.

  • We come to you. A typical visit lasts 60 to 90 minutes and takes place wherever you and your baby are most comfortable. Depending on your concerns, a visit may include observation of a full feeding (breast or bottle), an oral motor evaluation, assessment of your baby's posture, tone, movement patterns, and head shape, hands-on parent coaching, and a written care plan with clear next steps.

Follow-up visits focus on treatment, skill-building, and ongoing support. We work collaboratively with your pediatrician, IBCLC, dentist, ENT, or bodyworker to keep everyone on your baby's care team aligned.

  • Feeding isn't just about the mouth. A baby's ability to latch, suck, and swallow effectively depends on how their tongue, jaw, head, neck, and entire body are working together. When there's tension in the neck, limited head rotation, a disorganized suck pattern, or a tethered oral tissue, feeding can become painful, inefficient, or exhausting for both baby and parent. An OT trained in infant feeding can identify these connections and treat the root cause rather than just the symptom. This is especially important before and after a tongue tie release, when body tension and compensatory movement patterns need to be addressed for the release to have its full effect.

  • Nurtured Neuroscience is a framework developed by Dr. Greer Kirshenbaum, a neuroscientist and infant sleep specialist. Unlike traditional sleep training, this approach doesn't ask you to withdraw your presence or teach your baby to self-soothe through any form of cry-it-out. Instead, it helps you understand why your baby sleeps the way they do, what's developmentally normal at each stage, and how to build rhythms and routines that support better rest for the whole family without compromising your connection with your baby. At Moonhaven, sleep consulting is offered alongside feeding and OT support, which means we can also identify when a sleep challenge is connected to a feeding issue, oral restriction, or body tension that needs to be addressed first.

  • For lactation consulting services, Moonhaven partners with Milkwise and Wildflower to bill insurance directly. Many families pay little or nothing out of pocket for IBCLC visits through these networks. Please refer to our insurance section to check your coverage.

For infant occupational therapy and sleep consulting, Moonhaven is a private-pay practice. We provide a superbill after each visit that you can submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement. Many PPO plans reimburse a portion of OT services. HSA and FSA funds can typically be used for all Moonhaven services.

If you have questions about coverage or cost, don't hesitate to reach out. We never want finances to be the reason a family doesn't get the support they need.
